Active Protection McAfee VirusScan+ provides award winning On Demand Scanning using an Atemis Technology product called Active Protection. Since the internet is the most common route of infection, this product is enabled by default when you are connected to the internet. According to AV Comparatives own notes, this product "provides almost instantaneous protection in addition to McAfee's DAT updates for the most prevalent malware" (p. 5). The Results This test looked at each software product in two parts. First, AV Comparatives tested the anti-virus software against malware that originated over a 2-year period. Those products who, like McAfee AntiVirus Plus, were able to perform at a rate of 97% or higher, were entered into Part B of the test. In Part B, the anti-virus products were tested against the most recently released malware products (none more than 9 months old). McAfee outperformed most competitors with a Total Detection Rate of 99.1%.
