McAfee SiteAdvisor vs. Norton Safe Web
McAfee or Norton? McAfee Site Advisor Provides More Information To Keep you Safe
Both Norton Safe Web and McAfee Site Advisor provide a green, yellow, red rating system for search result. (Which one is better? Read here). When a user scrolls across these rankings they are shown a balloon of information that helps advise them as to why the site has received the ranking that is has.
This information not only assures the user that the ranking is accurate, but also helps the user to decide whether they will continue to visit the site or find an alternative. Clearly, these balloons present important information, which is why the quality of information is vital to the user's safety.
Norton Safe Web's balloons are very limited in their content and do not clearly state the security issues. Instead, generalized comments are provided such as "this is a known malicious web page".
Contrarily, McAfee Site Advisor provides comprehensive information for the user. When a site is labelled as dangerous, the user is told exactly why. A McAfee Site Advisor balloon will include information including:
- The website’s name and address
- The level of safety clearly displayed in the colour of the balloon
- A repeated warning to USE CAUTION
- Complete list of site violations including breaches of security, linkages to red sites, and dangerous downloads
Unfortunately, there are many dangerous threats for internet users as they surf the web. In order to help keep you safe, McAfee SiteAdvisor provides users with a web site report for all sites that demonstrate risks of malware, spam generation, scams, and links to dangerous websites. The more comprehensive and complete your defence, the less likely you will fall victim to an internet crime.
Unlike McAfee SiteAdvisor, Norton Safe Web does not provide site reports for websites that generate spam, conduct scams, or link to dangerous sites. Instead, Norton Safe Web only offers a report if it knows that malware has been found on a site. Unfortunately, this leaves users at prey to spam, scams and other threats.
